WINTER BLING PARTY with The Buckle Boutique design team

Welcome to The Buckle Boutique Winter Bling Party blog hop! Are we having fun yet?! Feeling inspired?! There is LOTS of awesome projects from our design team on this hop and I know I will be trying a few of these! Okay as we all know I’m in la-la-la-love with the self adhesive bling sheets from The Buckle Boutique! I’m next up in line for the hop! So I’m going to show you what I did to make a SUPER cute and surprisingly easy project to bring some bling to my holidays using the self adhesive bling sheets! I love projects where I can use things I have laying around and re-vamp it into something amazing.. and that’s exactly what I did! *drum roll please*

Image

Heres what you will need:

a picture frame of some sort, it can be square or rectangle, any color, any finish, you can even paint up an old frame in any color

some ornaments

ribbon strips

hot glue gun

self adhesive bling sheet from The Buckle Boutique which you can buy HERE ( you can add as little or as much as you want)

3 inch thick wire ribbon of choice

Image

First I took my 3 inch wire ribbon and made a bow with it, I like to tie a string in the middle of mine so I can adjust it so both sides or the ribbon are nice and even , it helps when you can make tiny lil adjustments to it by wiggling that string side to side.

Image

I then took my ornaments and strung them onto some ribbon and sort of eye balled how much I wanted them to hang down in the frame and cut

Image

Next I set my frame against something and held each strip of ribbon with the ornament on it up in the frame and decided which ones I wanted to be longer and which ones I wanted to be a little shorter then I tied a string around them all to hold them in that formation

Image

next I trimmed the extra ribbon  and hot glued the ribbon pieces (both ends) to the backside of the frame and hot glued my big bow to the front of the frame, adding some ribbon tails to the center of the ribbon to give it that BIG bow look!

Image

Next, I cut a two row strip of bling off my bling sheet from The Buckle Boutique with scissors (yes it is that easy!) and peeled off the backing to them and stuck them to the frame where I wanted it and trimmed off the extra

Image

Image

I, as an after thought, thought, oh my gosh, I can add bling to my ornaments! SO I took my trimming from the frame and added the bling to some ornaments in the frame! And there you have it!! Hang this up on your front door, in a window or on the wall pretty much anywhere and people will be oooo-ing and ahhh-ing at this bling decor!!

I hope you like my simple little project using things you probably already have! Go get you some self adhesive bling sheets to bling up your life! Fall Burlap Fringe Wreath.. with BLING of course!

I just have to start by saying.. I am NOT a wreath maker, in fact, have never made one in my life til this project! My mom loves wreaths and she sometimes de-stashes her sewing room and brings me goodies, so she brought me a bunch of rolls of burlap and some scrap pieces of orange and yellow burlap and I thought, fall leaves, hmmm wreath! And she ran out and got me a wreath frame cause she heard me say the word wreath and was excited to see me attempt one!  So here’s what I came up with!

Image

What you will need:

Burlap rolls, this wreath took two but I have NO idea the length, but burlap is so versatile and you can NEVER have to much of it, I recommend buying the rolls when they are half off and have a supply of them, cause like I said, there’s no such thing as too much! And if you have left overs, let me know and I will come up with some project ideas and post a tutorial or two of what to do with your left overs 🙂

A wreath frame, any size you desire (the bigger the frame, the more burlap and ribbon you will need, so keep that in mind, also when buying your frame, remember with all the stuff on it, it WILL end up wider then the frame and bigger then you think)

pipe cleaners or rubber bands..I used rubber bands since this wreath will b kept indoors, but rubber bands do dry and snap over time, I just thought once that happens I get to take it apart and re-do it, so I went with the rubber bands 🙂

ribbon to match your color scheme, as little or as much as you would like to pull thru your wreath, I didnt use that much on this wreath cause I was using ribbon scraps and ends of rolls I had left over, but the more you add, the prettier, I think!

mason jar lids (just the outter ring, not the center for this project)

scrapbook card stock/paper (yes I used scrap paper left over from another project for this, what can I say.. I use every square inch of paper!)

letters to spell FALL or cut the letters on cardstock or chipboard with your die cutter, you could even stamp the letters right onto your paper (or whatever season or word you would like to put)

and of course, last but definetly NOT least,  strips of the Buckle Boutique Self Adhesive Bling Sheets <— click to buy!

crafters glue

Image

My burlap was already in rolls that are about 6 inches wide, so I cut off pieces about 10 inches long and put them in a stack by color and went thru and frayed both edges by pulling a vertical strip of weaved burlap out at a time til I had about an inch of fringe

Image

Image

I then went and pulled my burlap under one bar of the wreath frame and back out the top and pushed it over and repeated this process on the next bar, then the next and back again the other way til I had a bunch of burlap that filled one of my hands, throwing in the occasional orange and yellow burlap in the mix, no pattern, just whenever I thought it needed it.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I then took a rubber band and just wrapped it around the bunch (that fit in the palm of my hand) to hold them tight and so I could then pull and tug on them to sort of spread them out, this also keeps them forward facing so your burlap looks nice and bunched up and not all over the place, you could also use pipe cleaners or tie knots in your burlap to attach it to the bar and keep in place

I then repeated feeding the burlap under the bars and back out (so its hugging one bar) and rubber banded a bunch, til the whole wreath was full

Image

Image

I then measured how long I wanted my ribbon strips to be (just by tucking it into wreath to touch the bar with my finger and then visually decided how much I wanted hanging out of the burlap, I choose a short cut but you could make them longer or skip this all together if you wanted) since I want to loop my ribbon around the wreath frame bars in various places, I cut it double the length I wanted sticking out so I could tie a knot with the ribbon once around the bar and get two strips of ribbon sticking out with just one piece. (REMEMBER: use a lighter to burn the edges of your ribbon cuts whether they are straight cuts or chevron cuts so that it doesn’t pull and fray! Be careful while doing this, you don’t need to light it on fire, just a lil heat singe will do!) I just repeated this process sticking ribbon in where ever I wanted it through out the wreath (same process as you did with the burlap strips).

Image

I decided I wanted to use something sort of rustic on the wreath and came across mason jar lids that had a nice patina on them (age, bumps and dings, discoloration.. the more the better to me!)

Image

I traced the mason jar onto the paper I wanted to accent with inside and used my blinged out Cameo (if you want to see my blinged out Cameo machine click here) to cut some letters to spell FALL on black paper. I then cut the traced circles out with scissors on the outside of the line I traced, so they would be just SLIGHTLY bigger then the mason jar lid lip.

Since I wanted mine to glue to the back of the mason jar lid. You could also cut on the inside of traced line so the circle would fit into mason jar lid instead of having a sort of 3D look like mine. I then put a thin bead of crafters glue on the lip of mason jar where I wanted to glue the paper to and just stuck it onto my paper circles.

Image

Image

Image

Image

No project is complete without bling! So I added strips of the self adhesive bling sheets to the edge of the mason jar lids, I did 4 rows of bling and then took the paper off the back to expose the sticky side of the bling sheets and just wrapped it around, SO easy! And WOW does it give it some glam! The bling sheets go a LONG way! If my husband would let me I would bling EVERYTHING in our house with the bling sheets from The Buckle Boutique!

Once I had all 4 mason jar letter circles done I glued them right onto a thick ribbon and tucked the ribbon into the wreath and around the bars to get the letters to sort of hang where I wanted. You could glue them in place, right onto the wreath, or glue the ribbon you attached them to into place, I left mine just tucked so I can move them whenever I want, in case I want to change the look up a lil bit. Easy on, easy off!

Image

Image

And there you have yourself a super fun fall wreath that almost looks like fall leaves! Doesn’t it?! After I showed my mom a picture via text message she said, “so I will be over to pick up my wreath tomorrow.. okay?” HAHA! SHE LOVED IT! And right after THAT, my mother inlaw called and says, “Oh Niki! its gorgeous! would you PLEASE make wreaths for each family within the family?! I’ll buy the supplies and pay you for your time!” That’s FIVE wreaths, in 4 weeks. How could I say no to that?! I have surgery on Dec 18th and will not be able to attend Christmas with our families as I will not be home til Christmas Eve at the earliest, so I wanted to make sure they knew I was thinking of them even tho I can not be there with my family, hubby and kids. So my mother in law and I went SHOPPING and everything was 50% off! Anyways, I’ll tell you more about those wreaths later and how its going 🙂 I think you will love this wreath too! give it a try! wreaths can be intimidating but this was fast, fun and easy and turned out so festive.. so give it a try!

So head on over to The Buckle Boutiques BLOG and click FOLLOW so you NEVER miss a hop or a project! And look for the sale codes when they are offered, you simply can NOT beat it!

I hope you enjoyed my lil project and I wanted to apoligize before I hit post here, for the pictures this time, I take pictures as I’m going with my projects with my digital camera and my tablet, I use the pictures from the camera for my blog.. well… *insert sad march of doom music here* my memory card left us shortly after this project… it lived a good life, took THOUSANDS of pictures and shared my life with me for several years, it took with it MY PICTURES for this project! So I had to use the tablet pictures or re-do the project, I know some steps are missing and the pic quality could be much better but I think (and reallllly hope) you get the idea! I will miss that memory card, it had all of our special videos on it, thanks goodness 98% of them were backed up but I did lose the video of my youngest babys first steps, but a friend was recording at the same time with her phone and me with the tablet also while hubby had the camera, so while its not the best quality I still have that documented, so I’m thankful! And it is almost Thanksgiving so… I am thankful I can be thankful for such silly things like tablets and phones and external hard drive back ups 🙂 and Im thankful for all of you reading this right now! I will be replacing my memory card next trip to town! Pictures WILL be better next time! So please come back! Don’t break up with me and my blog over bad pictures! PLEASE!!! 🙂 and if you have any confusion or questions about this project just send me a reply! Or contact me on facebook! I love to teach and inspire! RIP memory card- you will not be forgotten, but replaced. We had a good run! See you on the other side my friend…

Happy crafting~ NIKI the SCRAP princess, and now wreath making, blinging machine!

Little Scraps Of Heaven Designs Challenge for Nov 10th

HELLO! I just wanted to quickly share with you the layout I made for Little Scraps of Heaven Designs challenge for this week! This is the second time I have entered their challenge and I absolutly LOVE their ideas the inspiration I get from their challenges! So heres the sketch we had to work from

Image

So I decided to make a 2 page layout for my daughters birthday party pics! I guess the banner made me think it would be perfect for her birthday pics and when I saw their PARTY ANIMAL svg I knew I had to use it for this! AND it was in the RETIRING SOON section soo if you love these pieces as much as I do you better go buy before they are all gone! And for the price and how much you get with this file you just CAN NOT beat it! I didn’t even use HALF the pieces I cut out cause they wouldn’t fit on my layout! So now I have them to do another layout! And this will also be great when I’m making cards for my girls or nieces and nephews! LOVE it! SO here’s my layout! Hope you enjoy! Thanks for looking and as always.. happy scrapping! ~ Niki

Tutu themed hair clip holder.. with BLING!

I totally LOVE to make my kids hair bows and things like that, which then presents the problem, well.. where do you put them all?! I mean you don’t want to tuck them away to be forgotten and you of course want to display them to show them off cause they are just to stinkin cute,  also, then when you have an outfit to match you can see them all right there instead of trying to dig thru a basket of some sort. SO this is a great way to put them on display and have them all organized and ready to wear, whether yours are store bought, boutique bought or home made 🙂 SO here it is… drum roll please…

Image

What your going to need:

Hot glue gun, or fabric adhesive of your choice

Chipboard

scrap of fabric (set to fit your chip board cut out, you don’t need much at all)

ribbon

tulle

BLING, from The Buckle Boutique, of course, which you can buy HERE

scissors and xacto knife

any other things you want to add, like flowers, bows, really anything, you can do SO much with this idea!

First of all you want to draw out your top to your tutu dress, I did mine of just regular notebook paper folded in half then cut, unfold and bam- you got a stencil! Lay your “stencil” over your chipboard and trace and cut. If you want to be adventurous, draw right onto your chipboard, your going to cover it up anyways 🙂

Image

Image

Image

once you have the “tutu top” cut out your going to want to lay it on fabric and cut around your design, giving your self about 2 inches to fold over on the back and it does not have to be neat by any means. Then your going to use your hot glue gun (or fabric adhesive of choice) to glue the fabric to the back which will leave the front of your tutu beautifully covered with fabric

Image

Image

Image

Next, you want to decide how long of a tutu you want on the dress top, I did strips about 28 inches long, (from the roll of tulle you buy at the store or online) then folded them in half and used them like that so it gave me about 14 inches of total tut length (with half the work since with one piece I was really getting 2 strips in)

Now here’s where you have CHOICES, you can go simple and glue the strips of tulle to the back side of this, which I have done in the past and it works perfectly fine, but since I have a little 2 yr old (and we all know how that is) I found this works in case she reaches it and starts pulling on things.. I took my Xacto knife and just free handed a sloppy slit in the chipboard, I laid it on a piece of foam to cut which make is go thru much easier without messing up your table or desk that’s under neath and gives you a lil more control over the cut also.

Image

Then I fed my tulle thru that. I also like doing it this way cause then you can really get a pattern going on and fit a lot more tulle onto the tutu, giving it a fuller more controlled look..

Image

So I just repeated my pattern, played with colors til I got the look that I wanted! And really tried to fill it up with tulle! Its alot easier if you take a clothes pin and hang it from something so you can really see how it hangs, and really get a feel for the look.

Image

Once I got it all in place I took a strip of chipboard and covered it in glue and glued it to the back side of the tutu top where my tulle was fed, to really secure it in there, you could also tye knots when you get it in place but I like this better cause you can slide them around and stuff and just secure them with the strip of chipboard and a glob of glue

Image

Image

Next I trimmed the bottom of the tulle, again, hang it up so you can see how it hangs and just give it a simple hair cut to shape it and so you don’t have any random stragglers or tulle that looks out of place

okay so now its onto the ribbon! I just glued the ribbon to the front of the tutu top at the bottom and then covered the top of where the tulle begins with another piece of ribbon, like at the waist. These ribbons are where you will clip on your hair bows! Go crazy, add as many as you want! I find anymore then 5 becomes sort of crazy when you fill it up with bows!

Image

The rest is all just styling, you can do anything with it! I am personally in LOVE with The Buckle Boutiques adhesive backed resin rhinestone sheets! Which you can cut with scissors SUPER easily or if you have a die cut machine, it will also work in that and you can cut ANYTHING! Letter, shapes, you name it! Seriously, I use this product on EVERY thing I make these days, its uses are endless, check it out, you WON’T be disappointed, I promise!

ANYWAYS, sooo I decided I wanted to make a flower out of the rhinestone sheets so I drew out a flower (on just paper and cut it out) and traced it onto the back of the rhinestone sheets and free hand cut it out with scissors (yes it is THAT easy to cut out and work with)! I decided to make a slightly bigger flower on white paper to add behind it and stuck the rhinestone flower to it and then pushed a brad thru the center (LOVE this look!)

Image

Then I added some other little details, like bows at the top wrapped in lil tiny strips of the rhinestones, since I has some scrap left over and I allow NONE of it to go to waste 🙂 I added some silver beaded pearl things I has laying around to the neck line of the  neck line of the tutu dress top, and added a strip of rhinestone to accent the ribbon at the waist line. And last I glued a ribbon to hang it by!
